18 Jan Gabriel’s Bar Mitzvah with a Venice Beach Twist
Anytime we get a chance to photograph a Bar Mitzvah we get excited! While they are much like a wedding day, to us, a bar mitzvah is way more laid back. We still do all the same things… family photos, portraits, detail shots, ceremony, etc, but there’s a different vibe going on than at a wedding. It’s all about KIDS! And kids are pretty chill when it comes to big events. They are usually a bit nervous when we first start the day, (we would be too if we had to speak in front of 100 people!!), but we really try and get on their level and help them relax. To us, our only goal on a bar mitzvah day, or any other day really, is to capture real smiles and emotion. Ann and myself aren’t very stuffy, so we like to get in there with the kids and play around with them. We find that the kids react well to that, and sort of accept us into their circle. Most of the time, they are tapping US on our shoulders asking for a group shot! Success!
Shooting Gabriel’s bar mitzvah was super fun for us. We have shot so many events with his family, they are like family to us. Not only are they extremely nice and grateful for what we do, but their style is so amazing, we knew the night was going to be awesome! Jayne Bubis and her talented vendors turned The Rosewall into a hip, Venice Beach skateboard hang out spot. Jaws dropped as they walked in! Spinning heads on the dance floor? Food truck right there in the room? Um yes please! Everyone danced the night away with a smile on their face. Perfect all around!
